To avoid confusion, this video doesn't make direct footballing comparisons between Joe Willock and Lucas Paqueta. I would happily concede that at this point in their careers, Paqueta is a better all round player than Willock.
Within the context of FFP and the desire of the owners for slow, long term growth, I make the point that it seems frivolous to spend unnecessary money on Paqueta when we already have a very good player in Willock who will only improve under EH. Although I forgot to mention it in the video, signing Paqueta would also likely snuff out the potential of Elliott Anderson, who I believe will break into the team this season.
I attempt to stress in the video that money is better spent on the positions EH wanted to strengthen i.e. a fast right footed winger and a striker. Paqueta is neither as a day to day player. Maddison is a different type of player than Paqueta but is right footed and it was a surprise to bid for him as he's neither a winger, nor a striker either, however, EH sees him as a very versatile forward player that could operate in a false number 10 position.
At the right price I'd be happy to see Paqueta join the club and £30m seems about right, baring in mind his valuation has dropped from £34m since being signed by AC Milan four years ago.
