News Corp Europe correspondent Stephen Drill says the United Kingdom’s vaccine rollout is “proof” of the success of Brexit, with the country reaching much higher vaccination rates than other parts of Europe.

Mr Drill told Sky News the UK has vaccinated around 40 per cent of its population while countries such as Germany, France and Italy have only reached 10 to 12 per cent.

“It’s been a long three months but there’s been an extraordinary effort in the past few weeks of getting the vaccines out … more than 31 million people have had their first jab, another five million have had two doses,” he said.

“Everyone’s quite keen to get back to a little bit of normality and the first step will be people being able to have a pint at the pub without any restrictions on having to get a substantial meal.

“That’s from next Monday but everyone will still have to be outside so it’s only pubs with beer gardens, so it’s baby steps.

“But also, gyms and nonessential shops, so all those retailers that have been closed since before Christmas, they’ll be opening up again and we’ll see quite a few people getting a haircut”.
