One of the world's most famous pop stars, Shakira is about to face over 8 years in prison and an additional 24 million dollar fine, due to tax evasion in Spain.

She spent 3 years in Spain, long enough time every year to become a Spanish tax resident. And Spain has some of the worst income tax rates in Europe! Her problematic years were from 2012-2014. when she allegedly spent more than 200 days per year in the country, not paying Spanish taxes. She was supposed to pay 14,5 million euros in taxes for these 3 years!

Shakira decided not to settle for the deal from the prosecutor's office and to go to trial for her alleged tax fraud.
Prosecutors in Spain are seeking an eight-year and two-month prison term for Shakira if she is convicted in a trial for alleged tax fraud.

Shakira's public relations team said the singer has always fulfilled her tax duties.
It says the artist has deposited the amount she is said to owe, including 3 million euros in interest.

The trial date is yet to be disclosed to the public.
