This feast is celebrated every year in Old Goa on 3rd December at the Basilica of Bom Jesus. Preceding the feast 9 days of novenas are held and attended by pilgrims from all over the world. There is a grand fair where stalls selling sweetmeats, toys, and clothing line the streets.

What is the story of Old Goa?

The town was captured by the Portuguese in 1510 and was the administrative of seat of Portuguese India. This town was known as “Rome of the East” thanks to its magnificent churches. Epidemics of malaria and cholera broke out in the 17th century and the place was abandoned by 1759.
