Remembering the Camino: Betsy’s Story of Returning to the Camino by Wheelchair
Rob and Betsy Nickerson on the Camino in September - October 2021
Description: Betsy walked over 1000 kilometers on eight different sections of various routes of the Camino de Santiago before Alzheimer's took its toll on her and she lost her ability to walk. But this was not going to prevent her from returning to the Camino. In September 2021 we loaded up her wheelchair along with backpacks and other luggage and headed off to Santiago. We not only navigate the streets of Santiago with her in her wheelchair but also visited Finisterre, Lires, Muxia, and Lugo with the aid of a tour company that carried our luggage and provided car support. This presentation describes her journey and the great experiences she had even if she could not walk.
