Olhão is a relaxing seaside community in the Algarve region of southern mainland Portugal. It's known for its waterfront markets (Mercados de Olhão) that are held in a historic building on the waterside.

But, more than that, Olhão offers olive oil farm tours, moving museum experiences, and inexpensive day trips to the barrier islands of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. You'll find ferry, water taxi and boat tours here. They'll take you to beautiful places like Culatra Island and Armona Island.

All this with an affordable price tag and super casual, relaxed atmosphere!

The top tourist attractions and scenic spots in Olhão include:
- Exploring the bright, authentic old buildings adorned with bright tiles in beautiful historic designs.
- The views of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, taken from the marina or out on the water.
- Visit the Monterosa Olive Oil farm nearby. You'll find groves of gorgeous olive trees and see how olive oil is made!
- The Municipal Museum of Olhão, which is both beautiful and interesting inside.
- The easy hiking and wildlife of the Quinta de Marim nature reserve, which is a gateway into the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
- The Ecoteca de Olhão / Chalé-Museu João Lúcio, including the restored residence & grounds of poet João Lucio and a museum with exhibits on his life.
- Sunset and sunrise photography at Praia dos Cavacos.
- Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário e Capela de Nosso Senhor dos Aflitos, which is a stunning church with a little chapel.
- Culatra Island including Praia da Culatra / Praia da Ilha da Culatra
