The name of this town is due to a primitive chapel dedicated to Santa 'Ana, which gave rise to the present church.

This parish has the highest points of the island of Madeira, including Ruivo Peak, Torres Peak and Areeiro Peak.


The Centre for Traditional Santana houses presents some of the typical houses of Santana, where you can get regional products.Close to the Santana Municipal Council you can find the Centre for Traditional Santana houses. This is a preservation area, expanded by the municipality of Santana, in memory of local heritage.
Here we find some typical Santana houses, all adapted to their current use, where you can buy a wide variety of local products and traditional crafts.

The construction of the Santana Mother Church began in 1698, but it was finished only in 1745.This church is situated in the centre of the picturesque town of Santana.
Built in the late 16th century, the Santana Mother Church has been subject to countless renovations so that now almost no traces of its original plan remain.
The church is in baroque style with a high altar, a gilt woodwork altarpiece and a screen in the centre that represents Saint Ana and Saint Joachim.

Quinta do Furão Hotel
Quinta do Furão stands on a cliff top at Achada do Gramacho in Santana, on the northeast coast of the Island of Madeira. The Quinta stands in a 5 hectare property, 3 of which are planted with organic vines, vegetables and herbs. Throughout the gardens, you will see plants you can find in typical Madeira gardens, including endemic plants of island.

The vines occupy 2 hectares of the cultivated area of the Quinta and consist on different grape varieties such as: Arnsburger, Nacional Touriga, Verdelho and Tinta Roriz. The soil and the specific climatic conditions of Achada do Gramacho produce an excellent wine. The picking of the grapes occurs in September when the Wine Festival takes place.

The comfort and good taste of the hotel and restaurant blend harmoniously with the relaxing landscape where nature and tradition is unspoiled.
