Our “North of Portugal” road trip continues and we moved on to the Central Part of the country, in Manteigas - Serra da Estrela.

We had been in 2020 for a couple of days at Casa das Penhas Douradas and this was the perfect time to head back as the temperatures plummeted in the whole country.

It allowed us to have below 3 degree days which felt very much like a Scottish setting for us, which was just so romantic.

Casa de São Lourenço, a Burel Mountain Design Hotel, is a very small, cosy and romantic spot where we felt pretty much on our own and pampered by staff every step of the way. We had been at their sister hotel @casa.das.penhas.douradas before and this was just an upgraded experience from what was already a very memorable one.

We also took the opportunity to go from here to Passadiços do Mondêgo for a 12-kms hike - one of the harshest - and also visit the @burel.factory and buy a few pieces to bring back home and as gifts for family and friends. We absolutely loved staying here and completely recommend it.

Fun fact: we were the only lusophones on sight. It’s funny to travel in Portugal and… not see the Portuguese enjoying their own luxury hotels?! Oh well! We do!
