厦门北站，又称厦门新站，位于厦门市集美区后溪镇，西北是后溪生活区，南面是大学园区。对外交通方便，距离高崎国际机场约10公里，到厦门本岛、海沧、同安和翔安中心区的距离均在20公里左右。直接与沈海高速公路连接，与高崎国际机场、厦门本岛以及岛外各片区均有城市快速道路相通。
厦门北站于2007年开始设计，并于不久后开工。车站于2011年竣工，并随福厦铁路一齐开通。2014年起，厦门实施“普速出岛”工程，迁建客整所，并对本站月台和设施进行改善工程。2019年7月10日起，厦门站始发终到的普速列车均改在厦门北站。2021年为配合福厦高速铁路工程，本站在既有站场北侧新建7台15线的车站结构，于2023年9月建成投用。
厦门北站采用“上进下出”模式，站房分为出站层、站台层、高架层三层，共设置东、西、南、北4个进站口。分为2011年投用的南站房、2023年投用的北站房和交通中心：两个站房均横跨站场，设有高架站房；夹心区域相距70米，为交通中心。夹心区域交通枢纽总建筑面积2.68万平方米，设有东进站口和西进站口。其中地上为公交到达层；地下为公交出发层，并设有地铁进站口。
南站房由中南设计院设计，于2011年投用，建筑面积约11.36万平方米，横跨杭深铁路站场。南站房外观采用了闽南地区特有的燕尾脊轮廓，带有鲜明的闽南风格。高架候车厅双向跨度为132米乘220米，设有10个检票口通向1-10站台，编号规则为“东偶数、西奇数”。

Xiamen North Railway Station, also known as Xiamen New Railway Station, is located in Houxi Town, Jimei District, Xiamen City, with Houxi Living Area to the northwest and the University Park to the south. It has convenient external transportation, about 10 kilometers away from Gaoqi International Airport, and about 20 kilometers away from the central areas of Xiamen Island, Haicang, Tong'an and Xiang'an. It is directly connected to the Shenhai Expressway and is connected to Gaoqi International Airport, Xiamen Island and other urban expressways in various areas outside the island.
Design of Xiamen North Railway Station began in 2007 and construction started shortly after. The station was completed in 2011 and opened together with the Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway. Since 2014, Xiamen has implemented the "General Speed ​​Departure from the Island" project, relocated the entire passenger station, and improved the platform and facilities of this station. Starting from July 10, 2019, all normal-speed trains originating and arriving at Xiamen Station will be diverted to Xiamen North Station. In 2021, in order to cooperate with the Fuzhou-Xiamen high-speed railway project, a new station structure with 7 stations and 15 lines will be built on the north side of the existing station [9][10]. It will be completed and put into use in September 2023.
Xiamen North Station adopts the "top in and bottom out" mode. The station building is divided into three floors: the exit level, the platform level, and the elevated level. There are a total of 4 entrances to the east, west, south, and north. It is divided into the south station building, which will be put into use in 2011, the north station building, which will be put into use in 2023, and the transportation center: both station buildings span the station site and are equipped with elevated stations; the sandwich area is 70 meters apart and is the transportation center. The sandwich regional transportation hub has a total construction area of ​​26,800 square meters and has an east entrance and a west entrance. The ground level is the bus arrival level; the underground level is the bus departure level, with a subway entrance.
The South Station Building was designed by Zhongnan Design Institute and put into use in 2011. It has a construction area of ​​approximately 113,600 square meters and spans the Hangzhou-Shenzhen Railway Station. The appearance of the south station building adopts the unique swallow-tail ridge outline of southern Fujian, with a distinctive southern Fujian style. The two-way span of the elevated waiting hall is 132 meters by 220 meters. There are 10 ticket gates leading to platforms 1-10. The numbering rule is "even numbers in the east and odd numbers in the west."
