The most extensive and abundant watercourse formed in the interior of the island of Madeira, in the middle of the mountains and which flows into the ocean, is the so-called Ribeira da Janela. This name comes from a small islet that rises close to the mouth of this stream and that at its top there is a natural rock protrusion that in everything resembles a window.
The Porto Moniz Natural Pools are the great “ex-libris” of the village of Porto Moniz. The natural salt water pools are composed of volcanic rocks where the sea naturally enters.

O mais extenso e abundante curso de água formado no interior da ilha da Madeira, no meio das montanhas e que desagua no oceano, é a chamada Ribeira da Janela. Este nome é proveniente de um pequeno ilhéu que se levanta na proximidade da foz desta ribeira e que no seu cimo existe uma saliência natural em rochedo que em tudo faz lembrar uma janela.
As Piscinas Naturais do Porto Moniz são o grande “ex-libris” da vila do Porto Moniz. As piscinas naturais de água salgada são compostas por rochas vulcânicas onde o mar entra naturalmente.
