O maravilhoso Castelo de Palmela ???? The wonderful Palmela castle ⛫ 4K UltraHD

A few kilometers south of Lisbon, almost reaching Setúbal, imposing and lofty, stands the Palmela castle!
The Convent where the Order of Santiago settled, was built within the walls of the Castle during the reign of King João I. The structures of the entire complex were severely damaged by the earthquake of 1755. The earthquake and the extinction of the Religious Orders practically led to the abandonment of the Castle until the mid-20th century, when it was considered a National Monument. Still in the 19th and 20th centuries it served as an important post for military communications.
On the site of the former Convent, there is now a beautiful Pousada belonging to the Pousadas from Portugal network.

Poucos quilómetros a Sul de Lisboa, quase a chegar a Setúbal, imponente e altivo, ergue-se o Castelo de Palmela!
O Convento onde se instalou a Ordem de Santiago, foi edifícado dentro das muralhas do Castelo já durante o reinado de D. João I. As estruturas de todo o complexo foram severamente danificadas com o terramoto de 1755. O terramoto e a extinção das Ordens Religiosas levaram praticamente ao abandono do Castelo até meados do século XX, altura em que foi considerado Monumento Nacional. Ainda no século XIX e XX serviu de importante posto para comunicações militares.
No local do antigo Convento funciona hoje uma bonita Pousada da rede Pousadas de Portugal.
