It's no secret that moving to Portugal from countries like the United States has exploded in popularity in recent years. This is in large part due to the mainstream media's coverage of the event.

On most mainstream news channels, you'll see Americans talking about how thankful they are to have cut their expenses in half while doubling their happiness, all thanks to making the move overseas.

But is that really it? For most people who move to Portugal, including myself, the answer is NO.

Yes, this country is fantastic. But that doesn't mean that it is a problem-free oasis like the media often props it up to be.

Because the media overlooks these problems, many people choosing to move to Portugal do not get a clear picture of the reality of living here. As a result, they come here and end up disappointed or, even worse, contemplate returning to their home country.
