Manchester United have pinpointed Sporting Lisbon attacker Pedro Goncalves as a cheaper alternative to Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
The 22-year-old star has caught United’s eye this season after scoring 15 times in 22 appearances in Portugal and a buy-out clause in Goncalves’ contract means he is available for £51.7 million this summer.
That’s less than half of what BVB were demanding for Sancho last year, with United refusing to meet Die Borussen’s £108m asking price for the technically gifted England international.
While Jadon remains a high-level target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, the Red Devils would have to blow their transfer kitty on the former Manchester City winger and the progress of the Ivorian attacking sensation Amad Diallo means the club’s desperation for Sancho is not what it once was.
